About this site
Japan UK LIVE! is an educational website designed to encourage exchange between young people in Japan and the UK. It is totally bilingual - by removing the language barrier, participants are able to concentrate on what they want to say, rather than what they know how to say.
As well as text messages, participants can send photographs, pictures and sound files, which help to bring the exchange to life. There is no charge for taking part in this project.
For further information please contact: education@japansociety.org.uk
ScheduleJapan UK LIVE! gives a structured framework for exchange with a series of themes for discussion. Each theme lasts between 5 - 8 weeks and includes talkboards on a range of different subjects.
The current theme, which runs to 19 March 2010, is Backwards & Forwards. Students exchange information on life in the past and share their ideas about what the future will bring. On the two ongoing talkboards, discussion continues about how students can make a difference in the world around them, and imaginations are engaged in describing what might happen 'If....'
Schools working with a partner use the Project Pages to design their own programme of talkboard discussion and to create simple webpages for exchange of information.

Support for School Links from the Japan Society
- Working with the British Council and others, the Japan Society helps schools in the UK and Japan find partners for exchange.
- We offer ongoing advice and support to schools with links with Japan. We liaise with teachers about how to get started, project ideas and how to develop an established link. You can contact us at any point and our Schools Team will be happy to help you.
- In addition to Japan UK LIVE! where we provide bilingual support for student exchange, we can create a free translated email system for teachers to enable you to communicate frequently and without a language barrier with your partner school.
